Brinkley, Arkansas I'm looking at a couple different Hitachi excavators that are both listed as the same year model. They're supposed to be the same make, model, etc but the cabs and body design are different.

Deere buys them from Hitachi paints them yellow and puts there name on them. Ours is a deere 200 CLC and has hitachi written on alot of the parts and has a big metal nameplate on the turntable. Around 03 model I think, be sure its not a grey market machine otherwise you may have trouble selling it when you are finished with it! Chilliwack BC Ritchie Brothers has a site for specifications of equipment that might help. It doesn't list serial numbers though. Near the front of a Ritchie sale catalog this summer there was a guide for determining year by serial number. It said that most construction equipment has a standardized 15?

Digit number and something like the 7th digit from the right tells you the year. I looked at a few pieces of equipment trying to follow this code and couldn't make heads or tails of it though. The serial # on the first one is 147088677. The second one is listed as 1031K. I was hoping to make some sense of it if I could see a list.
